A pair of carved Chippendale mahogany elbow chairs, shaped top rail above an interlaced pierced splat back, outswept arms with scroll terminals on to a serpentine stuff over seat. Square chamfered front legs and plain back swept rear legs all united by an H stretcher, the chairs both have the makers stamp IK on the back seat rail. They are in dry country house condition with some fading, one splat has two pieces of carving missing, there is a crack on one top rail and they both have old ironwork braces where the upright meets the top rail, these are old repairs probably done in Victorian times. Despite their faults they are fine big wide chairs(26 ins) that have very good carving and are still sound. The seat height is 18 ins. English Circa 1770.
